One of the confounding things about this moment in history is that no adults are dancing in Europe, either. I split my years between London and a small mountain town in Tuscany, and the nightly TV news broadcasts and morning print editions in both Britain and Italy are completely dominated by Trump and his criminal co-conspirators. It's as though nothing happens anywhere but America -- although clearly it does -- and what happens in America these days is all devastating.

That's an interesting observation. The news cycle has become globalized in many ways, as have the entertainment media. It is increasingly feasible that a few powerful people can dominate what the whole world watches, sees and thinks. In this context, our artists become even more vital.

It's also the case that such media domination plays right into Trump's hands. He wants -- indeed desperately needs -- to be the center of all attention.

Our kids remind us: never stop dancing.
