Good info and context, David. Why is this stuff controversial? All part of our endless "culture wars." It's not the way things were done in Marcus Welby's time, when America was "great." (Although there are some privacy issues that are real.) Back in the '50s and '60s, doctors were mini-kings and no one was allowed to question their decisions. Patients were kept in the dark. And "variations" in results were hidden -- in other words, bad doctors' bad results were hard to detect and track.
