In a very real sense, our only hope -- indeed, sanity's only hope -- lies in the fact that Trump has always been his own worst enemy. The sycophants who comprise his imperial guard ("cabinet" doesn't seem an appropriate description) are betting that public opinion will impose no limits on his or their horrifying gymnastics. But there is growing evidence that the administration has pushed the envelope way, way too far already. Yesterday's terrifying demonstration of psychopathic narcissism, before an enormous and grimly silent audience of high-ranking military officers, may well prove to be a decisive turning point in this miserable saga. Or so we must hope.
